1. The Spirit moved over the face of the deep
And darkness was turned into light.
He saw it was good–He called it the Day
And the darkness, He called it the Night.

2. The Spirit again moved all over the deep,
The waters were called to the sky.
The air was so pure, dividing the sea
Below, from the water on high.

3. The Ocean was parted, revealing the Earth,
The Spirit still moved on the seas.
He saw all was good–He clothed the bare soil
    In verdure, with fruit-bearing trees.

4. The plants needed light, the Earth needed warmth,
The Spirit’s work still was not done–
Flanked ‘round by the stars, the moon ruled the night,
And the day was ruled o’er by the sun.

5. The Ocean was void and the sky was still bare,
Until creatures both great and small
Were called by the Spirit to swim in the seas,
While birds flew and sang above all.

6. And what of the Earth, now so beautif’ly clad?
The Spirit then called forth each sort
Of creature that scampered and scurried and crept;
He saw all was good that He’d wrought.

7. To crown all the creatures, the Spirit then moved
Again, and the dust of the Earth
Was formed in an image so noble and good–
    A man–by creation, not birth.

8. A garden was planted–a home for the man,
Who named all the creatures he’d found
Alone on his own, till the woman was formed,
Together by love they were bound.

9. The whole vast creation was so very good–
The work of the Spirit was done.
He rested, and so did the man and his wife,
Each seventh day under the sun.
