Friend, let us not one moment
Our armour lay aside!
For Jesus is our pattern
And Jesus is our guide.
He did each task with courage,
With zeal, He’d persevere,
And now He bids us follow
The lessons He lived here.
We cannot now be sleepy:
We cannot be content
With how we always have been–
That’s not how Jesus went.
Our task is to develop
The powers we’ve been given.
To work, and in all labour,
Prepare for work in Heaven.
The price paid to redeem us
Was infinite in worth,
And this is how He values
Each one of us on earth.
So live up to this standard;
Pursue the holy aim.
Develop all your powers,
Advance in Jesus’ name.
And battle on with courage
Through each refining fire.
With firmness, aim your highest:
Then aim again, still higher!
