The sun is gone. It still exists,
But only out of sight.
The weary day has passed away,
And now we have the night.
How often when the night comes in,
We gladly call it blest!
We lay aside our daily toil,
And close our eyes and rest.
The physical gives lessons for
The spiritual, they say.
So here’s the lesson that was linked
Within my mind today:
We cannot always see the sun.
Nor can we always feel
The sweetest peace and joy, as though
The Lord is near and real.
But still He lives and loves and breathes,
And keeps us in His care.
The fact that we can’t feel Him near
Does NOT mean He’s not there!
But greater still to me, the thought,
That, as at night we rest,
So also, great should be our peace,
When under heavy test.
Upon the landscape of my soul,
When dark and cold descend,
Tis but the hint that I should trust,
And calmly wait its end.
So help me, Lord, in this, my night,
An inner peace to keep.
To rest and trust and dwell in You,
And put my fears to sleep.
