Refrain
We’re going home!
Shake off your sad dejection.
We’re going home!
To live in sweet perfection.
1. O, how I long to see that day,
When the redeem’d shall come
To Zion clad in white array—
Their blissful happy home.
Refrain
2. To hear the hallelujah’s roll
From the unnumber’d throng:
The kingdom spread from pole to pole;
And join redemption’s song.
Refrain
3. See gather’d Israel safe at home,
They sing on Zion’s height;
And Jesus crowned upon His throne;
Creation owns His right.
Refrain
4. All hail! The morn of glory’s nigh,
The pilgrim longs to see,
That dries the tear from ev’ry eye—
Creation’s Jubilee!
Refrain
5. Jerusalem I long to see,
Blest city of my King,
And eat the fruit of Life’s fair tree,
And hear the bloodwashed sing.
Refrain
6. My longing heart cries out, oh, come!
Creation groans for Thee!
The weary pilgrim sighs, oh, come!
Bring immortality!

The text is taken from James White’s collection, “Hymns for Second Advent Believers” (1852).
The music was inspired by a Pennsylvania Dutch spiritual (Es Gait Nuch Heim), to which some additions and modifications were made. The idea of the chorus and a few of the words were also taken from this spiritual.
The great longing of the church to see and be with her divine Husband is expressed in this fiery love song. “Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”
