Self-Pity

1. Protecting self, with pity’s walls,
    My cancer grows, my vision falls.
I am afraid, I am confused–
    The gifts He gave have been abused.
Oh, who can save? And who can heal?
    And who can change the way I feel?

Ask the Lord to give me cleansing, healing;
Move in faith and disregard my feeling.
Realize that I’m the cause of trouble–
Blaming others only makes it double.
Count each blessing.
Do the duty that is lying nearest.
Keeping busy makes my head the clearest.
Rejoice in the Lord!

2. Uplifting self, with pity’s might,
    My bondage grows, I lose the fight.
So unlike Him who died for me!
    My heart is longing to be free.

    And change me from the way I feel?

3. By faith I claim His vict’ry mine,
    I am the branch, He is the vine.
From Him I gain what I had lost,
    We fight the fight! We count the cost!
